Texas Baptist Children’s Home

Louis & Billie Sue Henna of Round Rock dreamed of providing quality Christian care for abused and neglected children in Central Texas. This dream became a reality in 1950, when they donated 112 acres of land and five newly constructed buildings (three cottages, an administration building, and a superintendent’s residence) to the Baptist General Convention of Texas for the purpose of establishing the Texas Baptist Children’s Home.

Texas Baptist Children’s Home has provided a safe, loving home and essential services for vulnerable children for 72 years. Programs have evolved through the years to meet changing community needs, but children and young people remain at the heart of the mission.

Family Care

The Family Care Program offers transitional housing to vulnerable single mothers and their children. It stabilizes and equips families through case management, no-cost counseling, life skills and parent training, tangible and financial assistance, scholarships, resource referrals, and Aftercare. Families may progress through three phases of residential programming that move them from the point of crisis to stability and independence.

Family Care can house up to 46 mothers and 92 children and serves around 65 mothers and 120 children annually. Facilities include four group residences (up to four families in each), eight semi-private residences (2 families in each) and 14 individual apartments.

Home Base

The Home Base Program offers transitional housing to young adults, ages 18 to 24, who have aged out of group or foster care, juvenile services, community-based youth programs, or who are facing homelessness. It provides a bridge of stability and guidance as they start college, vocational training, or enter the workforce.

Services include case management, no-cost professional counseling, life skills training, scholarships, resource referrals, and Aftercare. Home Base can currently house up to 22 young adults in three group residences (up to five clients in each) and seven individual apartments.

Texas Baptist Children’s Home offers both a robust recreation and spiritual life program that serves both Family Care and Home Base to provide fun recreational activities and integrating faith into their daily lives. Last year, there were seven professions of faith and one baptism amongst our campus residents.

Services include individual, family, and group counseling, as well as child-focused therapy.

The HOPE Program is delivered by professional counselors on the TBCH staff from two locations including the TBCH campus in Round Rock and a satellite office located in Georgetown, Texas. Intake and Aftercare services for TBCH residential programs are also available at the Georgetown Office.
