Miss Lenora Detering of Houston opened Miracle Farm in 1982 as a private, Christian residential child-care facility that provided basic care for boys and girls. Miss Detering had a God-given vision for helping children in a serene, country setting and believed that the rolling hillsides near Brenham provided the perfect spot. In the late 1980s, Texas Baptist Children’s Home & Family Services (forerunner of Children At Heart Ministries) in Round Rock acquired the property for the purpose of offering a boys’ ranch program on the beautiful 325-acre working ranch.

Miracle Farm

In 1989, Miracle Farm began its current mission as a nonprofit, residential program dedicated to helping at-risk teenage boys who are experiencing crisis with family relationships, behavior and social skills, and educational success. Following God’s leadership, we partner with families to bring connection, healing, and restoration.Rooted in Christian faith and western heritage, our one-of-a-kind ranch helps struggling young men experience healing, earn an education, and learn respect. Through our innovative horse program and on-site academic and vocational training, young men establish and achieve goals for a lifetime, and learn to believe in themselves as something more than society has painted them to be. It all happens in a safe, structured environment where they have the opportunity to turn their lives around and become responsible young men.

The boys are required to participate in all activities, including the horse program, farm and ranch maintenance, and school.

Miracle Farm is a residential program that is designed to create a healthy, loving family environment in a supportive, faith-based community. A trauma-informed approach to care utilizing Trust-Based Relational Intervention® principles as well as professional counseling for boys and their families help provide personal guidance and an individualized plan for care. Our on-site charter school allows boys to work at a pace that will allow them to catch up on the gaps in their education while preparing them for work opportunities in their future. The horse program helps boys establish trust and learn responsibility. There are also recreational activities on campus, including an outdoor basketball/sport court, a baseball field, and several fishing ponds.
